Glove Goalkeeping
We Let Others Speak for PJ and White Glove Goalkeeping
Having coached GKs for decades--at all levels--Pat Johnston was a TREMENDOUS Goalkeeper.
Playing in an era when US professional soccer was not really a career option, Pat journeyed to Newcastle in England where he flourished, and was signed to pro forms, only to be denied by the FA due to nationalism laws.
Possessing extraordinary athletic talent, Johnston easily dominated collegiate soccer. His accolades are many, but I can easily say that he was one of the top GKs of his era--at ANY level--in the United States.
Having watched him coach, it is beyond doubt tha WGG students will be exposed to the absolute best GK training and nurturing available.
Tremendous GK, tremendous coach, tremendous person. WGG understudies can't go wrong!
Eric Vaughter- Hall of Fame Guru of the American Goalkeeping scene for decades, Reusch USA Marketing Director
"I can safely say that Pat has had the most outstanding four year career of any goalkeeper that has ever been in the ACC"
Anson Dorrance- Legendary Hall of Fame Coach, UNC Chapel Hill, 22 Time National Champion

Under Pat's guidance, my daughter's skills have improved beyond expectation. Her shot-stopping abilities, positioning, and distribution have improved significantly. What sets Pat apart is his unwavering commitment to nurturing the entire player. He not only imparts technical expertise but also instills a deep sense of confidence, resilience, and discipline in his students.
Coach Pat's coaching style is both motivational and constructive. He creates a supportive environment that encourages learning and growth yet maintains high expectations from his students. His dedication to his students' success is evident in every session.
Beyond the soccer field, he has been a positive role model for my daughter. He emphasizes the importance of hard work, both physically and mentally, instilling values that extend far beyond the game.
We are deeply grateful for his guidance and mentorship. He plays a pivotal role in my daughter's soccer journey, and we highly recommend him to any aspiring goalkeeper or parent seeking exceptional coaching. Coach Pat Johnston is not just a coach; he is a true game-changer and an inspiration to young athletes.

"... Since our days together in Duke's first soccer dynasty, Pat and I have been close friends for over 40 years. His personal integrity, passion for the beautiful game, total devotion to the development of young players, and exceptional coaching ability, is second to none. If I had to pick 11 players to save my life, Pat would be in Goal. Any player putting themselves in his hands, will encounter a relentless pursuit of perfection, that will push them to a level, far beyond what they could have imagined! ..."

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Pat for over 40 years as both a teammate and a friend. I believe he is a person of high integrity and high standards, and one who has a history of developing quality goalkeepers. I recommend his training to any young man or woman that is truly interested and committed to developing the skills necessary to compete as a goalkeeper in today’s game.

"PJ - Pat Johnston" changed the direction of my soccer career, my mental abilities, and my life. Pat is one of the most intense goalkeeper trainers that I have had the pleasure to be coached by. He focuses on keeping the ball out of the net but does it in such a detailed way that the position of goalkeeper becomes something of beauty. Catching, positioning, communication, and control of your box are just a few of the things that I can remember spending hours on with Pat when we trained. His ability to make a keeper better is unmatched. His ability to improve the mental aspect of a goalkeeper is also a quality that he has that not many others do. To say that Pat can make any keeper better is an understatement. Pat was one of the best players and transformed himself into one of the best coaches. Please, please train with Pat just once. IF you do, you will want to do it as long as you can. As mentioned before, Pat is intense, but he is also inspirational and helps ALL keepers become better and the keeper they strive to be. As I used to say...........COME FLY WITH ME. I would ask that you take a chance and COME FLY WITH WHITE GLOVE GOALKEEPING. You can never go wrong.

Over the past 15 years, I've had the privilege of collaborating with Patrick Johnston, culminating in his appointment as Lead Instructor of Goalkeeping for EXACT's Academic 50 ID Camps. His coaching prowess is unmatched, offering students top-tier goalkeeper training and mentoring. Patrick's unique blend of motivation and constructive feedback fosters a supportive environment while upholding the highest standards. His dedicated and thoughtful approach makes him a true caretaker of the goalkeeping position, benefiting any athlete who seeks his guidance.

Pat Johnston is one of the greatest GK's to come out of Florida. I had the opportunity to observe him while he played professionally for the Miami Sharks. Pat is not only a shot blocker but the master of the box. He guides his defense with precise directions. High balls were punched out or picked up with ease. His distributions out of the back started the offense. It is with ease that he is passing on his knowledge to this generation of GK's. Transferring his passion can be seen in his interactions with players. He instills confidence in them. He makes them understand the position rather than just play it.

I came to know Pat many years back, as I was introduced into a network of elite GK coaches, and since then, Pat and I have worked closely side-by-side, where I have learned much from this humble legend. Pat stands out from the rest as mentor, colleague, and friend to players, and this fortunate coach, not only because of what he accomplished, but more importantly how he applies that elite experience to the demands of today’s goalkeeper position. He balances the foundational “skills and will,” as they say, that made him great, with a keen understanding of today’s goalkeeper and what they need to become great.

After many years working with some of the best GK coaches In FL I finally got the opportunity to work with PJ. I had heard great things about him; his knowledge, dedication to his craft, and the outstanding environment he creates, to name a few. In our time together he demonstrated that he was worthy of his reputation and then some. He not only developed the GK's, but also myself and the rest of the staff with his insights into the players and understanding of the game.

Coach Johnston was my keeper coach during my senior year in college at Sewanee. My only regret is that I didn't have him for the 3 years prior to that. He brought my technical game to the next level and had me seeing the entire field. Whether it's flying across the net and ripping one out of the upper 90, or taking a gnarly back pass from a defender, Coach will have you ready. I knew everything we worked on during the week would lead to confidence and success in the game. One thing I appreciate the most about Coach Pat is that he pushes you, but also makes it fun. Don't tell him this, but he's pretty funny as well.

Getting to know and working with Pat over the Summer ‘23 on the camp circuit was both a pleasure and privilege. Pat brings a wealth of knowledge from his experiences playing and coaching at a high level for many years. He is very engaging whether he’s talking to a group or you individually. When he speaks, you listen. I have only known him for a short time, but can easily say from working by his side, that I wish I could have been coached by him during my playing days. As a coaching peer and someone that I look up to, I have learned a lot from Pat and I’ve looked to implement it in my own coaching career with goalkeepers. If I could, I’d be picking his brain daily. Goalkeepers who choose to work with White Glove Goalkeeping will learn a lot and continue their development to working towards playing at the next level.

Pat Johnston, director of White Glove Goalkeeping, is the end all for those who want to play GK at the next level. Pat was the greatest GK to ever emerge out of Miami, FL in an era where great players were in abundance. He was the best, period. His career at Duke with 47 ACC shutouts still stands as an ACC record. He is now taking his vast knowledge of the position and teaching the youth of Florida techniques that are not otherwise taught. We are extremely proud to have him work with our goalkeepers. Every time he makes it down it is a special day at Baurball. He was the best as a player, and he is the best as a coach!
Hart Bauer, Director of Bauerball, South Miami Player Development Program

Pat is serious about goalkeeping and really knows his stuff. As a player, Pat had a tremendous career and was someone I looked up to while playing at Duke. His experience, expertise, and his passion for impacting young player’s lives, make him a true talent!

Honestly, I thought that my ability as a goalkeeper was pretty good back in my playing days. However, spending a season with Pat showed me the difference between being good and being great. Pat Johnston is truly in a class of his own. Anyone who is serious about becoming an elite goalkeeper would benefit immensely from training with this guy. Thank you Pat for everything.
Keith Moser, GK Director Stafford Soccer Club, University of Mary Washington GK Coach

I spent some time this summer (2023) training with Coach Johnston. It was the best goalkeeper training I have ever received. My mindset changed completely on the soccer field. This fall season I have benefited with a lot of improvement while playing with my high school team. Thank you Coach Johnston !

I had the pleasure and privilege of playing under Pat for the greatest three years of my soccer career. He took a team of talented young girls and turned us into an absolute masterclass of technical skill and mental grit. Pat's dedication to his coaching philosophy and his player's success is an absolute rare joy to experience. While Pat's ability to develop skills and technical prowess is top notch, his true gift as a coach is imparting a conceptual understanding of the game that few others can. You will walk away from your time with Pat with an understanding of when and how to use the skills he helps you develop to truly improve your performance. I cannot recommend working with Pat enough and assure you will learn a whole lot more than you bargained for!
Alex Holmes, Former Team Captain, Attorney-Advisor at FERC
I have had the pleasure to work with Pat "PJ" Johnston for the past 10 years. PJ is one of the best tactical and technical GK instructors I have seen. He brings real life playing experience coupled with decades of coaching experience to all teams and players he works with. PJ is one of the premier goalkeeping instructors in the country and I couldn't give him a stronger endorsement.
Tony Pacella, Head Men's Soccer Coach, Sewanee: University of the South

Coach Pat Johnston is the best in the business. I've seen first hand how passionate he is with sharing his love of the game and knowledge with anyone he comes across. He is very honest with his athletes and wants them to succeed at their highest level. With his decorated accolades and experience one should listen, he has a lot to offer.
Bianca Keil, Head Women's Soccer Coach, University of MN-Morris

Coach Pat is and always will be someone I look up to. Pat came out of no where and provided guidance on and off the field for my team for 3 years and continued to coach me through my NAIA goalkeeping career. As a 5’2” goalie who was unlucky in the injury department, mental strength is something Pat taught me that I continue to use today. As you can expect college coaches looked past the keeper who was too short to be in the goal; however, every moment of warmups and the game when the team passed back to their goalie with ease and the fast plays from defense exploded through the field changed their mind. What solidified this was the hand skills and explosive power and reflexes I was able to develop with Pat as my coach. With his help throughout the summers of my college career I started majority of my games from freshman to senior year. With this team the mental strength he taught me I was able to push through hard times and be a better person after. I will forever recommend Pat Johnston and hold my time with him as a coach near and dear to my heart!

Coach Johnston was the right coach at the right time for me in my playing career. He showed me right away in my first season of collegiate soccer what it meant to compete. Intense, straight forward and encouraging, Coach had an impact on my development as a player and I wasn't even a goalkeeper. After more than 30 years in the game coaching and several more playing, I've enjoyed reflecting on his role in all that has led to where I am today. Great to see how he continues to make a difference in the game.
Michael Wiggins, Head Coach of the 2014 Illinois High School Soccer State Champions

Pat is simply an outstanding goalkeeper coach. Period. He draws on a wealth of high level playing experience which provides him a deep understanding of the position. His coaching pedigree is deep and broad. Spending summers learning from some of the best goalkeeping minds in the US. Pat's international travel has allowed him to also witness what top level international goalkeeper coaches value when preparing their national keepers for World Cup competition. Bottom line: Training with Pat allows you to more effectively, efficiently and consistently keep the ball out of the goal.
